SJSU SLIS CLA Lecture and ReceptionSaturday
3:45pm - 5:00pm The future, depending on your point of view and attitude, can be viewed as exciting or scary - or maybe both, like a rollercoaster! Do e-books change everything? Does format trump reading? We can acknowledge that the future won’t be the same as the past - not by a long shot. What are the opportunities for us and what enhancements might we expect? Is this the final straw for libraries or the biggest opportunity for us since the advent of the web? Are libraries going to be even more open and boundary-less? Are the newest social technologies for the web a great opportunity for social institutions like libraries, schools, universities and governments? Or are we entering a DIY search and answer world? Which new ‘ways’ are worth investigating to set the library’s mandate and philosophies? Stephen Abram is a veteran library watcher, strategic technologist and library futurist. For the SJSU SLIS CLA lecture he will share his perspectives on these issues, challenges, and opportunities. Sponsored by
